Earby: Plan to convert warehouse into gym gets green light

Plans to convert a disused warehouse into a modern fitness and wellbeing facility in Earby have been approved.

Anthony Reedy, of Perform-Physiotherapy, sought to transform the unit at Station Yard, Colne Road, into a facility offering various services - including a gym, a physiotherapy clinic, and a wellbeing recovery space.

Pendle Borough Council granted full approval but set out five conditions.

These included that no customers were allowed on the premises outside the hours of 5.30am and 11pm, Monday to Friday, and 7am to 9pm on weekends and bank holidays.

Additionally, 21 parking spaces must be provided and remain in place, free from obstruction, for the lifetime of the development.

The building, once used as a goods shed as part of Earby railway station, has not been operational for over a year, last serving as a storage and distribution site. Before that, it was a car workshop.

According to documents submitted to Pendle Council, the site would "provide a modern gym space for the community to exercise" and is described as "a unique service, in an ever-growing industry".

The application also highlighted that the site would "bring a place of work for local sports therapists and fitness instructors, either employed or self-employed, who wish to provide personal training, small group sessions or exercise classes, along with potential roles for housekeeping, administrative services."

The proposal outlines the opening of a fitness facility offering an array of exercise and rehabilitation services, equipped with cardiovascular machines, resistance equipment, and free weights.

The gym will also feature a smaller classroom for group sessions such as pilates, yoga, and strength training.

The premises will also have two therapy rooms for consultations and treatment, and a designated recovery area providing therapeutic services for patient rehabilitation.

Additional features would include separate changing facilities for men and women with secure lockers, toilets, and showers.

The facility is expected to attract clientele from neighbouring areas, potentially boosting the local economy.
